Publication date: October 15th 2017

Description:

Nocturne, a wilderness of eternal night.

Solis, a wasteland of endless day.

Nazafareen is a Breaker, a mortal who has the rare ability to shatter spell magic—although her power carries a high price. With the memories of her former self erased and nowhere else to turn, she comes to Nocturne hoping to start a new life under the triple moons of the darklands.

But when an assassin forces Nazafareen to flee to the sunlit mortal city of Delphi, she finds herself embroiled in a deeper mystery whose origins lie far in the past. Why was the continent sundered into light and dark a thousand years before? And what really happened to the elegant but ruthless creatures who nearly reduced the world to ashes? The new Oracle might know, but she’s outlawed magic and executes anyone caught practicing it. Nazafareen must hide her powers and find a way out of the city—before it’s too late.

As the net slowly tightens, something ancient and vengeful begins to stir in the arid death zone called the Kiln. A dashing daeva named Darius is pursuing Nazafareen, but so are a multitude of enemies. War is brewing again. Can she stay alive long enough to stop it?

So begins the first installment in an epic new fantasy series from the author of the Fourth Element Trilogy!

Review:

I received  an e-copy in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to Xpresso Book Tours for the copy!

Rating: 3/5

For now since I haven't read the first series, the Fourth Element Trilogy which I believe you can still get the box set in Amazon Kindle for free. I feel my rating may change if I had read that because obviously a lot had happened in the first three books and I still didn't care enough for the characters in the story.

It's my fault for not double checking that it's a continued series. All I saw was the cover, the summary that looked intriguing, and the one that said #1 of Fourth Talisman. Nonetheless, Nocturne delivered what I was looking for when I signed up for it, intrigue, well developed and fascinating world.

There's a lot of action in the story in every turn with different POVs but to me, it still moved in a slower pace than I would like. There were a lot of exciting parts but after that one moment, it would switched up to another point of view. It dampened the buzz for me though I totally didn't mind the many POVs. It showed a lot of things happening at different places.

My favorite part was the world building, the daevas, and the moons. As for the characters, I found Galen the most interesting even though he had only two scenes in the book. Next to that would be Nazarfeen. Nocturne has not only intrigue and magic. It has a minimal slow yet you'd look for to kind of romance. It also has bits of politics in it and Greek mythology.

I was supposed to give it a 4 star but knocked of a star because of the cliffhanger ending. Out of the plot/sub plots of the story, one was only resolved. There were new turns and problems almost at the end with Nazarfeen, Darius, Culach, Javid (almost everyone), and it was left at that. The ending was fitting but it was more of expected than not.

One thing's for sure though, I would definitely check out the first series.

Nocturne is available at Amazon Kindle for $2.99 while the box set of the Fourth Element Trilogy is still currently free.

That's it for now. Keep safe everyone!
