Kim
of the Playlist Series is my favorite character slash book boyfriend by Jay E.
Tria, and Ringo almost kicked Kim out of the top spot because he’s so adorable.
Kris was right. He’s cute.
You Out of Nowhere is a story of
chance meeting and finding love again with age gap issue. Kris, a 31 year old
woman, meets a 24 year old corporate man, Ringo, reading Pride and Prejudice
inside a train. The story starts there and continues like a set of coincidences
that seem like fate where they meet again and again.
Older
woman, younger man trope is one of my favorites even though it is usually frown
upon and even though I personally prefer an older man (Haha!). I used to read
this josei manga all the time when I
wanted something cute, romantic, and something from this trope. Game Over by Mizutani Fuka is a story about an office lady who rides her regular
bus and finds this boy who is attracted to her. The whole manga is like
snippets of their lives and relationship as they struggle with their 10 years
age gap.
I
think it was that influence that I enjoyed reading You Out of Nowhere so much. It was cute, but it wasn’t just that. It
was filled with heat and incredibly sexy scenes. Tria wrote it wonderfully with
alternative POVs. But wait, that wasn’t all of it. Seoul of South Korea was the
perfect bonus for a Korean Drama fan like me. Another plus was that Filipino
family culture was portrayed in the story nicely that other Filipino could
relate with easily.
It
was a bit predictable but that didn’t decrease the fun I had reading this. Both
characters were relatable and realistic. I especially liked Kris because I
liked how she thinks, dresses, and she’s into music. I also adored Daisy. Their
friendship felt natural. The one thing I didn’t enjoy particularly was the
reason why Ringo attended the blind date. He’d just gotten out of a 9 years
relationship. It was his first date in a while. I felt strongly against it
because I didn’t want Kris to feel like a rebound (because of personal experience
and I wanted to protect Kris even though I knew she was strong). 9 years. I was
like wow but thinking back, it reminded me that their banters had been quite
funny. It was good that they fit together like puzzles. It was also good that
Ringo was more than what he seemed. You guys are going to fall in love with
him.
